Artist's Comments

I've been taking about making a series of silkscreen books based on various trips I've taken in the past few years but I've spent a long time just playing around with different ideas on how to present the prints [at one point I thought about actually printing on maps but didnt look good] I've actually made about 4 different prints using this photo I took in montenegro [link] but this is the first one I've felt happy enough with to post. I'm still not entirely certain how its going to look but this is getting in the right direction. i wanted to use photos i'd taken but i also wanted to add some of my drawings as well.

This prints has a 5 colour print for the background [a posterized print of the photo [link] and then 4 colours for the drawing of the land rover. Now that it's all printed I'm not overly happy with the background, i think the image has become mucky compared to the reference photo. I'm also thinking of getting rid of the sky and printing a rough map of the area there.

I think the map would be a great idea. Also, it seems like the background photo's surfaces should be cleaner, so that the color transitions won't break into dots. Although, I think that effect works great on the forest. It might be that just simply placing that map on the place of the sky the whole picture gets more balanced and interesting.

So, umm, what this all rambling tries to mean is that go with the map idea. Heh :P

Wow. This is just stunning, your use of such bright colors and the graphic style of the piece. It really reminds me of those old 1970s travel posters. The introduction of a map would be interetsing to see, especially what kind of map you chose. Great!
